100+ Community Voices Speak up!
Vital information for the new management of Wexham Park Hospital on Patient Discharge.
Over 100 people were asked about their discharge experiences from Wexham Park Hospital from Healthwatch Slough, the local consumer champion for health and social care.
The work conducted in May – July 2014 by Healthwatch Slough (the local consumer champion for the patients’ voice) highlights 6 areas as needing improvement:
This is just the start of the Healthwatch Slough patient discharge project which aims to support improvement in this most vital stage of a patient’s journey.
Over 60% of all the feedback Healthwatch Slough receives about health and social care services in the community, is about Wexham Park Hospital. As the Hospital was rated as ‘inadequate’ by the Care Quality Commission in May 2014 with many comments relating to discharge, we approached the hospital to focus a survey on this area which was approved.
The Consumer Voices report published today (3rd November) (the report is available to download. Whilst we found areas of good practice in the Patient Discharge Lounge the Healthwatch Slough report makes two recommendations that would significantly improve the patient discharge experience:
We’ll be sending a copy of our report directly to Andrew Morris (Chief Executive from Firmley Health NHS Foundation Trust) who took over managment of Heatherwood and Wexham Park hospitals on the 1st October 2014.
Colin Pill Healthwatch Slough Chair says
I encourage people to speak up, share their experience with Healthwatch so that changes can be made. You told us what you thought. We are telling everyone and working for change.
Healthwatch Slough is sharing its findings widely with the public. We have given our recommendations to Frimley Health the Trust responsible for running the hospital, and Slough Borough Council. We will work with them to make the discharge experience better. Please share your experiences of hospital discharge with us to support our continued work.
