Storytime at Slough Libraries

Earlier this year Healthwatch Slough met parents and children
when we led storytime sessions at libraries across Slough
from 14-18 January.
Curve Library in Slough

We visited libraries in Slough to lead their storytime sessions and speak to parents of young children about their experiences and areas of concern about local health and social care services.

We use what people tell us to identify themes and feed back key messages to the relevant providers (e.g. GP surgeries) to encourage good care and help make improvements.

Some of the areas which were discussed most frequently were:

  • GPs and GP surgeries,
  • Mental health and emotional wellbeing,
  • Midwives,
  • Wexham Park Hospital.

One mother explained:

"It's so hard to get an appointment at my surgery... the phone just rings."

Furthermore, during a difficult experience at Wexham Park Hospital a father frustratingly explained:

"I was told if I wasn't happy I could go private."
